Ingredients

  • 2 cups of white granulated sugar
  • 4-6 drops of your preferred food coloring

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  • Place 2 cups of sugar in a large plastic bag
  • Add 4-6 drops of food coloring depending on the hue you're looking to achieve
  • Seal the bag shut and begin to knead the bag. It may "clump" up at first, but continue mixing. After a few minutes the color should begin to spread. Continue kneading until you've reached your desired color (adding more food coloring if necessary)
  • On a sheet tray lined with foll, pour sugar onto the tray and spread out into an even layer
  • Place the tray in the oven. After 2-3 minutes remove the sheet tray and "mix" the sugar. Put back in to the oven for another 2-3 minutes. (do not look the sugar "cook". If it starts to become "shiny", remove right away as your sugar is melting. You do not want it to melt. So keep an eye on it and when in doubt, pull your sheet tray out sooner than you think)
  • Remove sheet tray from the oven and let the sugar continue to "dry" for another 15-30 minutes
  • Using a sieve over a large bowl, pour the cooled sugar through the sieve collecting any "clumps".
  • Store in a container until ready to use.
